It is traditional to bless the plow and the land before planting, so this an appropriate time of year to bless the tools of our labor, asking that the work we do with them brings a good harvest. Since most of us are not farmers, we can ask for blessings on any tool we use to nurture our creativity or to feed ourselves and our families. Any tool that represents your work, hobby, or passion-a paintbrush, pen, knitting needles, spreadsheet, wrench, etc – a tool that you use to nurture and support your body or spirit- can be blessed and dedicated to the work.
This is a charm we used at our Spring Equinox Rite
Charming the Plough
Hand to the plow New fields harrow
Hand to the loom Threads of fate weave
Hand to the cradle Lullaby crooning
Hand to the field Tender seed foster
Mind to the work Awaken our passion
Heart to the work Awaken our love
Soul to the work Awaken our Spirits
Flesh to the work Awaken our blood
Blessings upon them The tools of our trade
Blessings upon them The tools of our craft
Blessings upon them The tools of creation
Blessing upon them The tools of our need
Rains of renewal And wind in the trees
Ocean of memory and fire that frees
Gentle Mother Earth Golden, bright Sun
Nurture us daily ‘til all work is done (Maria Stoy)
