Summer Solstice Ritual

Summer Solstice Ritual
Saturday, June 20, 2015
Arrival at 12:00 pm; Ritual at 1:00 pm
Lakeview Grove, North Park (North of Pittsburgh, PA)

Celebrate Summer Solstice with Sassafras Grove by honoring the Manx god, Manannan Mac Lir.  On the Isle of Man, the Manx people would pay the rent to Manannan Mac Lir on the eve of Midsummer each year.  Manannan was the ruler of the Isle of Man and would cover the island with a cloak of mist when enemy ships approached.  If, despite the mists, enemies approached, he would turn himself into the shape of three legs and roll himself down from the mountaintop.  To this day, the symbol of his three legs is the symbol on the Isle of Man’s flag.

Schedule of Events:

Arrival:  12pm

Ritual to Begin:  1pm

Potluck to follow the ritual.  We will have sandwiches for our main dish.  Please bring a side dish or drink to share.

Please bring:

An offering for Manannan Mac Lir

A dish to share for the potluck

Our events are free and open to the community, but we do rely on the donations of those who are able to defray the cost of space rental and supplies. Please remember, even a dollar can help make the difference between having our costs covered and Grove Members having to pay them out of our own pockets. Support your local Druids!

Sassafras Grove also supports Animal Friends’ Chow Wagon Program. If you can, please consider bringing a package of cat or dog food (canned or dry), cat litter, food/water bowls, treats, or toys for donation to the Program. Donations must be new and unopened. Chow Wagon serves over 1000 local families by distributing food and toys through food pantries. See http://www.thinkingoutsidethecage.org/ for more information about Animal Friends.

For more information about this event, Sassafras Grove in general, or our parent church Ár nDraíocht Féin: A Druid Fellowship (ADF), please feel free to email us at info@sassafrasgrove.org.
